Walking in the reserve

The sensation that you get visiting both the this place is that of being on a island in the middle of Mediterranean, despite being close a big metropolitan area like Palermo.

[b_b] To visit this stretch of coastline you can use the Barcarello - Sferracavallo entrance (near our accommodation).
The first contrasting aspect is given by the physical landscape; the sheer walls of the Capo Gallo promontory are in marked contrast with the fiat look of the strip dose to the sea characterized in turn by the continual succession of little bays and inlets; the calcareous nature of the rock, smoothed by wave action, returns reflections of a turquoise colour that invite the visitor to stop and relaxing in the shade for a pic-nic, especially after a sultry day spent in the city amid museums and monuments. On the tip of the reserve there is also a lawn near the sea for sunbathing and take a bath.

[b_b] This reserve is a protected area of importance for his marine flora and fauna and his features of geological or other of special interest.
For exemple, among the many caves (also marine), one of the most interesting from the historical poinf of view is the Impiso cave, in which remains of prehistoric hippopotamuses and elephants have been found. Anyone coming here with their own transport is advised to leave it at the nearby car park of Punta Barcarello since from this point on the road is closed to traffic. From here you continue on a track (walking or by bike), flanking some private villas on the right, while on the left the coast allows one to begin to guess at the intensity of the colours and the landscape that soon can be enjoyed.
